Critical Mode PFC Controller + Triac Dimming Sensing/Control The AAL414 is a unique combination of an active PFC, phase cut dimmer sensor, and depletion MOSFET. This circuit provides all the standard features found in active PFCs (excellent power factor and low line harmonics generation), the flexibility to use analog or PWM outputs for brightness control, and fast start-up at low dimming. The unique features of this circuit make it ideal for off line LED lighting applications. The AAL414 is intended for LED ‘ballasts’ up to 50W that require a minimum board area, reduced component count, and high efficiency. Several topologies can be used including AAIs (patent pending) Boundary Mode Coupled Inductor Boost topology which increases efficiency by 10% in respect to a flyback and reduces the size of the magnetics. The more conventional fl yback topology (lower output voltage than line input) and the boost topology (output voltage exceeds the peak line voltage) are also common. The AAL414 is offered in a Voltage Enhanced 28-Pin QFN package. This custom package allows 2.5mm of creepage and clearance between the HV connection and low voltage IC. Features
