LED String Controller with Internal FET
The AAL422 is an LED controller capable of driving a string of LEDs with high efficiency A novel feature is a feedback function intended to control an upstream power supply (fi rst used on the IPS402 chip) that is supplemented with an internal 65 volt power FET. This provides for a lower parts count and smaller size for the end application.
The intended application is a buck topology controller for a string of LEDs. The current level is sensed and set internally by comparing with an internal reference. Three default current settings are provided: 350mA, 750mA, and 1A. High-performance PWM dimming is possible from either an external microcontroller or from the AAL404 Dimmer chip. The AAL422 is a family of chips with different part numbers to specify the size/power of the internal FET.
