Low Input Voltage Synchronous Rectified Boost Controller
The AAL425 is a new addition to AAI’s existing family of boost controllers. The AAL425 is a low input voltage synchronous rectified boost controller that allows a simpler, less expensive, lower parts count design by implementing internal switches. Using the AAL425, a complete boost converter can be achieved with only a small choke and a few resistors and capacitors. The AAL425 contains an internal charge pump to allow operation down to 0.8V, the typical end of discharge voltage for most single cell batteries.

At heavy loads, the synchronous rectifier eliminates diode forward voltage conduction losses. At light loads, the synchronous rectifier is turned off to avoid SR gate drive losses and to maximize light load efficiency. A full array of self protection features are provided, including line over/under voltage lockout, load over voltage protection, main switch cycle-by-cycle current limiting, and thermal shutdown.
