PRELIMINARY Zero-Voltage Switching Boundary Mode PFC Controller The AAC116 is a primary-side switching controller which provides high performance active power factor correction (PFC). The PFC circuitry forces the SMPS to draw a current proportional to the instant AC line voltage thus resulting in excellent power factor and low line harmonics.
Zero-voltage switching over the full line voltage and load range allows for higher switching frequencies. The AAC116 is optimized to be used in AAI’s ZVS boundary-mode coupled inductor boost topology (patent pending).
Features
- Implements AAI’s proprietary Boundary-Mode Coupled-Inductor Boost + ZVS topology (patent pending) for PFC applications. Royalty-free license of topology granted with use.
- Extended capacitor life with minimal inrush current
- Significant efficiency improvement and low EMI
- ZVS over full line and load range, enabling higher switching frequencies
- Sync FET drive and control
- Self-protection features - fault monitoring
- Internal rectifiers for housekeeping power
- Adaptive gate drivers for optimal switch timing
- Direct high-voltage connection for startup power (up to 500V)
