Variable Gain Digital Microphone Pre-Amplifier Sunnyvale, CA, May 28, 2010 – ASIC Advantage, Inc. announces the AAP349 Variable Digital Microphone Pre-Amplifier featuring user-settable gain and variable high-pass filtering. The AAP349 is designed to provide the advantages of a digital solution, with additional analog enhancements for enhanced performance, such as extension of the input signal level to 1Vpp. The heart of the AAP349 is a Digital Microphone Pre-Amplifier, offering ultra-low noise performance with a 4th Order Sigma Delta ADC output. The ADC operates with a clock frequency of 1MHz to 4MHz, and provides superior noise and power performance with an inherent high degree of linearity. Based upon AAIs high-performance ECM Pre-Amplifier, the AAP349 extends the benefits into the digital domain with the addition of a capacitor adjustable high-pass filter corner frequency and resistor selectable gain. On board addition of a small capacitor and resistor values allow the user to set the gain from 0dB to 20dB, while also tailoring the low frequency response by adjusting the corner-frequency of an integral high pass filter. The integration of a high-pass filter can improve SNR 1db to 3dB from typical digital pre-amplifier solutions, as well as offering the potential for enhanced RF immunity. Additionally, the integral high-pass filter allows for rejection of low frequency noise from wind and other ambient sources. The variable gain offers the opportunity for trimming of gain of an amplifier board, or with use of switched resistor values to select the gain configuration of the microphone based on the requirements of the application at the microphone level. The high input signal level and the range of user programmable gain enable a significant extension of the microphones dynamic range, where one application potentially benefitting would be the use of a mobile device in a handset versus speakerphone mode of operation. The AAP349 operates from 1.6V to 3.6V, though its most optimum for 3.3V applications. It offers low power consumption, with a typical supply current of 475μA at 1.8V. Other features include 20kHz minimum signal bandwidth and a sleep mode to reduce supply current below 40μA with a fast wake-up scheme. The AAP349 comes in a 6-Pin configuration, with signals including Clock, Ground, Data Out, Gain Select, Input Signal and VDD. It comes in a Micro SMD Package, 810μm x 1200μm, with a thickness of 350μm maximum (including solder bumps).
