LED Lighting Print
AAI has developed a thorough understanding of the unique requirements for driving and controlling LEDs. LEDs are rapidly emerging as the leading choice for lighting purposes in an environment of ever rising environmental concerns over energy and efficiency. The unique requirements for proper implementation of LED lighting solutions is considered to be a focus market in AAIs new portfolio of standard products. As with our Power Management products, some of AAIs original LED Lighting products will continue to be offered under the original IN-PLUG® Part Number Convention, while newer parts will follow the AAI Part Numbering Convention. The IN-PLUG® brand will continue to be associated with the Power Management and LED lighting series of products. These products are supported for customization.

New to AAI’s 2009–2010 LED Lighting Products are a Critical-Conduction Mode PFC Controller, the AAL412, providing advantages of reduced EMI, smaller magnetics and improved control loop implementation. Additionally, the AAL415 Low Voltage Boost Controller provides a boost controller option, featuring a power synchronous rectifi er drive circuit implementation for optimal efficiency in low voltage applications.

Also of special note is the addition of the Dimmable LED Lighting Reference Design (AAEV40X). The AAEV40X uses AAI’s unique IPS402 and AAL404/406 and 412 LED Lighting ICs to implement a complete LED Lighting solution, demonstrating the unique features of AAI’s lighting products. The AAL412 Critical Conduction-Mode PFC, when combined with the IPS402 can provide the optimal PFC—Buck stage LED Lighting solution, with AAI’s proprietary provision for linkage of the PFC and follow-on Buck stage to maintain the highest possible duty cycle and efficiency through the PFC and Buck stages. The AAL404 Phase-Cut Dimmer IC interfaces to a traditional, incandescent Triac Dimmer circuit to interpret the phase angle of either leading or lagging edge dimmers, generating a matching dimming control signal used by the power stage for implementation of a dimming solution. AAI’s proprietary current measurement technique featured in the IPS402 provides dramatically improved stability and helps to eliminate flicker problems typical in Dimmable LED Lighting Systems. AAI’s proprietary fault monitoring and management techniques are implemented with the AAL406 LED String Fault Monitoring IC, which allows for cascode connection for long LED strings to detect shorts or opens, as well as bypass of open LEDs and generation of a ground-fed fault signal in either event.

LED Lighting Control
AAI’s Lighting Control products feature PFC and PWM Controllers for Battery Level to Off-Line applications
