The AAL404 is an IC intended for use in LED lamps (replacements for incandescent bulbs). The chip senses the input AC voltage of the lamp and looks for the chopping (phase cutting) that is produced by typical triac dimmers. An output signal whose duty cycle is proportional to the dead time caused by the dimmer is intended to drive the PWM control pin of an IC driving a string of LEDs. A second analog output provides for PWM control.
