Phase-Cut Dimming IC
The AAL404 is an IC intended for use in AC mains powered LED lamps (replacements for incandescent bulbs). The chip senses the input AC voltage of the lamp and looks for the chopping (phase cutting) that is produced by typical dimmers (both triac and trailing-edge). An output signal whose duty cycle is optimized for optimum dimming control (but at a higher frequency) is generated to drive the PWM control pin of an IC, either linear or switching control, driving a string of LEDs.
